About this artwork
The delicate and intricate works in the Sediment series were inspired by the residue left behind when muddy water was emptied from a bath tub. Vein-like patterns seem to cascade towards the plug hole, forming an other-wordly landscape from the tiny particles.
JakBox has recreated and suspended these ephemeral patterns, using paper and a range of materials such as graphite and mud. Each piece produced is unique in tone, concentration and shape and,… as a series, they inspire a range of both visual and physical associations. Some may appear as landscapes when viewed from afar, others, perhaps, more like microscopic images of cells.

Simon Williams is a talented British artist who runs the Camden-based JakBox gallery. He is fascinated by time and the objects that surround us, and holds a deep appreciation for the “accidental aesthetics” created by the city: the marks that industry, commerce and everyday life leave behind. His textural takes on pavements and other elements of urban living encourage the viewer to rediscover beauty in our immediate environments.
