Lilac was inspired by the space in which the lake meets the ocean, something very familiar to Jake in his time growing up in Australia. He often frames his subjects quite literally, as is evidenced by a bright red frame surrounding the work. In the area surrounding one of his homes in Pacific Palms, New South Wales - many stunning houses look down onto the lake as it fills into the ocean.
This was the inspiration for his work 'Lilac'. It's painted… entirely in oil onto canvas, with a hint of oil pastels to create subtle layering.
