About this artwork
In this oil painting, I infused the canvas with the swirling chaos and intensity of raw emotion. The dark, monochromatic tones reflect the often overshadowed aspects of the human psyche, depicting a figure caught in a tumultuous dance with their own shadow. I aimed to capture the struggle and beauty of vulnerability, inviting viewers to reflect on their own internal battles. This artwork energizes any space, bringing a profound depth and dynamic…
emotion that stirs contemplation and empathy.

« My goal as an artist is to extract the memories of what freezes an identity and an individual, as well as what characterizes them through their emotions, experiences, and reminiscences. »
Jam Despas is a painter and photographer based in France whose works have been exhibited nationally. He cites the body as being the heart of his artistic reflection, he endeavors to understand by questioning what "constitutes it, what preoccupies it, what it expresses, and what builds it". Despas' creative process begins by photographing models in his studio. He then renders the images onto canvas, cardboard, or paper using oils, acrylics, and charcoal.
