About this artwork
These heavily textured pieces were a result of studying the ancient paintings from the Lascaux cave in France. While working on them, admiration for the skill and artistry of these ancient masters grew deeper in me.The line, the composition, the freedom and the mysterious symbols evoked a sense of wonder the palpable essence of their art, furnished new insights into my own role as a painter but more importantly as a human being.
The painters of Lascaux… lived, thought, felt and worked in their cavernous studio with probably just firelight to help them, they worked without a trace of ego, perhaps for posterity, perhaps for their immediate now.
The vitality, spirit and life in this painting of a buffalo and other animals is timeless ,showing man in his wish to understand the world in which he existed, as we attempt to fathom the world that we inhabit today.
