A majestic humpback whale rises from the deep, breaching the surface in it's full, awesome presence. There are a number of directional movements within this painting, from the shafts of sunlight that pierce the water, to the long grooves embedded in the Whale's body. The lighter sky is also filled with white line patterns that simulate a sort of air flow.
Grimditch seems to find whales particularly entrancing. This is another one of several he has… tried depicting within the wildlife series. Whales have a truly magical quality and whilst they can be colossal in size, they also evoke feelings of tranquility and peace. This piece has been named 'Helga' which in Old Norse can mean 'Holy' or 'Blessed'.

« I thrive for the opportunities that painting brings. I have always maintained the canvas is a place to make mistakes, embrace accidents, and venture into the beautiful unknown. »
James Grimditch is an artist based in the United Kingdom, where he has exhibited his paintings in numerous solo and group events. His abstract and representational works revel in the concept of free expression and are created in a spontaneous artistic approach.
