“Conceptions” and its partner “Preconceptions were painted in Mexico in late 2006, both the originals have been sold to a client in America. There is clear reference in this painting, both in the name, and in the imagery, to a birth and fertility theme. These elements, along with the bright colours, and the organic shapes, seem to reoccur in James work of this period of my career. James notes "around the time I painted this piece, my wife and I…
decided that we would try for another child, after noticing the two embryo shapes in the painting, a friend said that we would surely have twins".
