The anticipation, the soft hum of voices, that excitement of the lights fading and the curtain waiting to be drawn.
And the sumptuous colors which add to the anticipation.
The painting is almost abstract in its simplicity but also very descriptive. The harmony of colors highlights the timeless moment.
In this work, I captured the vibrant essence of Parisian theater. Bold brushstrokes… and color contrasts evoke the dynamism and elegance of the scene. The passionate red of the balconies blends with the soft purple of the seats, creating an atmosphere that is both intimate and spectacular. Every detail tells a story, making this painting a tribute to performance art and the rich culture of Paris.

James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
