with an almost surreal feel to the way the character looks both inside and out at the same time in this particular painting, the aim was to explore the mood that can be expressed in the opening of the window on a gray and dramatic sky, the sea giving a more ominous feeling and yet contrasted by the light clothes of the girls and the summer flowers on the window. Color blooms in the pastel shades of hydrangeas. To achieve this, a restrained palette…

James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
