About this artwork
One of the most distinctive aspects of James MacKeown's work is his portrayal of children, portrayed with a tenderness that is quite unique in his work. Here the painting depicts a child writing a letter, her flowery dress filling the canvas with warmth, the child's face glowing as she writes. A mix of delicate brushwork and bold palette knife strokes bring the paint together.

« Intimate, with an eye on the privacy of everyday life enhanced through color and silence. A calm and restful life. »
James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
