About this artwork
the glorious burst of delicate color that seems typical of the late spring season. the rosebush, climbing above the front door, is heavy with flowers, and the geraniums shine pink on the windowsills. The subject is simple; a view of the painter's courtyard in front of his studio. The painting was made entirely from life, over a period of days, which kind of brings the painting to life in the sense that the colors grew as the flower appeared (and… is fell too!). It is a warm painting that shines in shades of purples and blues.
« Intimate, with an eye on the privacy of everyday life enhanced through color and silence. A calm and restful life. »
James MacKeown is an award-winning figurative artist living in France whose paintings are featured annually in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in England, Ireland, and Switzerland. Through his art, he endeavors to convey the sublime in the intimacy of everyday and private life. The apparent improvisation in his works is in reality the result of an extreme and refined elaboration; the palette of colors meticulously constructed with soft gradients combined with a gentle touch. As such, MacKeown identifies as a "painter of intimacy". While he occasionally depicts surrealist subjects, they also follow his particular vision and philosophy of daily life.
