Traditional Chinese opera or Xiqu, is a form of musical theatre in China with roots going back to the early periods in China. It is an amalgamation of various art forms that existed in ancient China, and evolved gradually over more than a thousand years, reaching its mature form in the 13th century during the Song dynasty (960–1279).

Jan Peter van Opheusden is a painter and sculptor based in the Netherlands who has exhibited his works nationally, as well as in Germany, Monaco, France, Spain, China, Indonesia, and Russia. He believes that there is no such thing as becoming an artist, either you are or you aren't. The central themes in Van Opheusden's compositions explore movement and color. His vibrant and distinctive pieces are created with lithography, and acrylics on canvas.
