This painting takes me back to when I was around seventeen and was an avid jumble sale attendee. Every Saturday morning I’d join the long queue outside the local church or town hall ready for the opening scrum. Once inside, with elbows sharpened and manners left outside everyone would push and shove to get to the ladened trestle tables. Often there’d be no room to examine an item of clothing and you’d just have to go with the feel of the cloth or…
a glimpse of a pattern, handing over your 5p and stuffing your purchase into your bin bag . My finest moment was finding I’d bought an original Mary Quant mini dress. A canvas fabric with a bold graphic print , which I wore to death .
