About this artwork
Sea shells come in so many shapes and colors they represent, in the artist's opinion, humanity. We are compelled in a moment of childhood remembrances to hold the shell to our ear and listen to the ephemeral sounds echoing back to our own ears. It puts a smile on our face and we once again believe that we can hear the ocean in that little vessel. This is an abstraction of a sea shell (gastropod) - one of many - the artists keeps in her collection…
of items that inspire her. She has created many sea shell paintings but was fascinated by the many colors in this one. The colors are exaggerated and explored along with the flow of lines to create this work of art called, Som do Mar which is Portuguese for Sound of the Ocean. It is 18 X 24 inches painted in oils onto stretched canvas. It is not framed but ready to receive a frame of your choice.
