About this artwork
Painting of a snow covered garden in winter in Latvia. Initially, a plain-air study painted with loose brushstrokes through the artist’s studio window on a sunny winter morning, completed with some details using memory and photographic reference in the course of ten months. In retrospect, that was the only wintry day in Latvia in year 2020. Looks like the global warming is really affecting all regions of the world, including Northern Europe. Winter…
is the time of rest for the garden plants and trees, and there was little rest for the garden last year. One hopes that the year 2021 will be better.

« "There is nothing permanent in this world, except for a moment depicted in a painting." »
Janis Zingitis is a Latvian painter who has exhibited nationally as well as in Austria. He believes that realistic representation is the highest degree of abstraction, as humans are only capable of perceiving a small fraction of reality. Through his compositions, he wants to capture the world’s soul and reveal it to others. In the past, he has worked with watercolors, pastels, acrylics and collage. Currently, he is rediscovering his love of oil painting.
