About this artwork
Painting of a river in summer in Latvia, one of the Baltic States in Northern Europe. The river's amber-like color brings up the question of where does it come from? Is it the water, the ground of the riverbed, the light, or a combination of these elements? It becomes almost philosophical - a realization that beauty does not result from one thing alone.

Janis Zingitis is a Latvian painter who has exhibited nationally as well as in Austria. He believes that realistic representation is the highest degree of abstraction, as humans are only capable of perceiving a small fraction of reality. Through his compositions, he wants to capture the world’s soul and reveal it to others. In the past, he has worked with watercolors, pastels, acrylics and collage. Currently, he is rediscovering his love of oil painting.
