About this artwork
Painting, in which a view of Riga Central Market pavilions (originally built in the 1930s as hangars to house blimps) situated on Riga canal side, Venetian gondoliers, ballet students from the Riga Ballet School and seagulls appear in one composition. What does it mean? Hard to say. An odd moment, maybe a dream, a strange dream? Let the viewer decide.

« "There is nothing permanent in this world, except for a moment depicted in a painting." »
Janis Zingitis is a Latvian painter who has exhibited nationally as well as in Austria. He believes that realistic representation is the highest degree of abstraction, as humans are only capable of perceiving a small fraction of reality. Through his compositions, he wants to capture the world’s soul and reveal it to others. In the past, he has worked with watercolors, pastels, acrylics and collage. Currently, he is rediscovering his love of oil painting.
