« When things become too familiar and too comfortable, as an artist, I have to disorient myself in order to keep my work relevant and engaging. »
When Janusz Walentynowicz works, he has a dialog with himself wherein the piece speaks back to him, as a way of making sense of the world around him. Whether the themes of his compositions touch on political, social, or personal matters, Walentynowicz concerns himself with the task of ‘putting color and form together’. He works mainly with cast glass, painting in reverse to create a negative impression of the motif on the back, resulting in a three-dimensional piece.
