This work of art is a Yajna - an offering to the essence of Shiva & Shakti depicted on canvas in the form of Ardhanarishvara. The Sanskrit word Yajna has a subtle thought attached to it.
Matter and energy are believed to be made of 5 subtle essences. In Yoga - anything matter or energy is known as “Shiva”.
This piece of art is to convey a message that when we merge with universal consciousness — sentiments… of “Aatmavat sarva bhootayshoo” (all beings are manifestations from one source) and “Vasudhaiva kutumbakam” (the entire world is thus one family ) become fully understood — that is what the concept of Ardhanarishvara represents

Jay Menon is a passionate Indian painter who has exhibited his work in South Africa, India and Mauritius.
