After the Charlie Hebdo attack, I wanted to create a painting that represented the emotion I felt about this tragedy. The metaphor of everything being writing came to me. The writing related to drawing, the writing of political attacks... In fact, it seemed to me that every action, and in our case, the act of art, is a form of writing—that is to say, a testimony of our time. The artist denounces, expresses outrage, bears witness, takes sides... but… the work of art never provides answers. That is the philosopher's role. This painting expresses this state of affairs. Four 20x20 cm canvases mounted on wooden panels.
Jean Gabriel Mondié, a self-taught sculptor initially trained in painting and painting restoration at Drouot, draws his inspiration from classical tradition and anatomical power, using primarily bronze. He combines the rigor of neoclassicism with the audacity of Mannerism, not hesitating to deconstruct the material to emphasize aesthetic intensity. Through his works, he questions mythological and human metaphor, seeking to move, to bear witness, and to sublimate the ideal of beauty in a deeply expressive and poetic impulse.
