China-Tibet: what's the problem?
This is THE subject that annoys, the one that can only be approached with infinite precautions with the Chinese leaders, under penalty of diplomatic quarrel. The question of the status of Tibet remains a major point of tension for the Middle Empire.
In the 16th century, the religious sect of the "Yellow Caps" obtained power, thanks to the support of the Chinese Ming dynasty. Their leader is called the Dalai Lama… ("ocean of wisdom") and considered to be the reincarnation of a bodhisattva (a saint of Buddhism).
After the revolts of the late 1950s and 1960s, China tightened its control over Tibet, and in particular over the monasteries: part of their heritage was destroyed, the monks were forced to work.
The Dalai Lama then accuses China of "cultural genocide" ...
