About this artwork
This striking work of art is a masterful representation of the fleeting nature of time and the complexity of existence. Dominated by imposing hourglasses made of transparent glass, it symbolises the inexorable flow of seconds.
Mechanical elements, such as intricately detailed cogs and gears, bring a futuristic dimension to the work, blending past and future into one coherent image. References to industry and mechanization are clear, evoking the… race against time that humanity has been engaged in for centuries.
The juxtaposition of these different elements – the mechanical, the temporal, the organic – makes this work a powerful reflection on our relationship with time, technology and our own existence. This work embodies a harmonious fusion of technique and poetry, inviting the viewer to a profound reflection on the incessant flow of time and the fragility of our presence.
Jean Louis Mendrisse is a French painter and sculptor who has exhibited both nationally and in the Netherlands. His art depicts diverse emotions and moods, celebrating life and humanity in search of the past and meaning. Mendrisse also expresses the ephemeral through themes that include seduction, arguments, shyness, doubt, family, and dance. He paints using oils and acrylics on canvas or linen and also employs screen printing and lithography techniques. His sculptures are made with bronze, resin, and plastic.
