“If I hadn’t been a sculptor, I would have been an archaeologist!” the artist once told me. His love of stones and the mysteries surrounding them led him to create “Monolith 2.” After much deliberation, this sculpture had to be constructed in a “negative” form – it couldn’t be otherwise. Just as a sculpture would be cast in bronze, the work was created from clay. The idea was refined, and the pieces were assembled. Materials faded and shaped by time,… shells, semi-precious stones with colored marble powders, were expertly arranged to then be imprisoned by resin and form this pure marine monolith as if it had come from the depths of time…
Like the illustrious Caesar, there is no compression in this work by JL Lacroix, but a process of inclusion.
Unique piece titled and signed JlL on the front on a copper plate.
