About this artwork
To paint is to breathe light.
In the Cévennes, nature envelops me, soothes me, speaks to me in low voices. Every path, every stone, every burst of sky becomes a promise of color. It is there, in the silence of the mountains, that my paintings are born.
I paint in oils as one writes a memory, slowly, letting the material settle, following the rhythm of the wind, the light, the heart.
I seek to capture the fragile moment when reality mixes with… dreams — that second when nature reminds us that it is alive, powerful, benevolent.
My landscapes are not places, but emotions. They tell of the sweetness of a clear morning, the warmth of a summer light, the invisible presence of man in the face of immensity.
Each painting is a breath, an invitation to slow down, to feel the simple joy of being there, in the midst of life.
In the light of the Cévennes, I paint to say thank you.
Jean-Michel Poveda is a figurative painter trained at the ABC school in Paris, steeped in his family's tradition of visual arts and inspired by the light of the Cévennes. He primarily uses oil paint, exploring an approach somewhere between realism and impressionism, where color and material convey the sensations of a moment. He captures natural textures and light with small, juxtaposed touches, revealing the sensitive truth of the landscape. His work invites silent contemplation and harmony, conveying an emotion of dream, peace, and gratitude in the face of nature.
