About this artwork
In the series of red skies, the painter interprets a field of lavender facing Aurel, a very beautiful village in Provence built on a rocky outcrop.
The artist, as often, writes in rebound on his creation the following poem:
"Running the Ventoux when the hills turn blue and the carts sing. Running on the plateau where giants plant improbable and fragrant lights. Running from the shadows to the fire shouting with joy. Running on the colorful back… of the world while waiting for the death. Running joyful and weeping. Running with fingers bloodied with vermilion, tattered soul clinging to linen and split by the knife. Running when hands are tied. Running with life that mocks and still laughs.
Run and land near the lavender.
When time plows the faces of runaway children, run. Immobile in the wind that washes Aurel and my memories."
« Staying in this delicate in between, located between form and the emotion that it gives birth to. »
Jean-Paul Schmitt is an award-winning French artist who is convinced that painting can confront mystery through form and light, as portrayed through methods other than surrealism and abstraction. Schmitt’s creative process begins with a preliminary study using watercolors, inks, pencils and acrylics. Once the color dynamics have been determined, he moves onto the final medium - thick oil paste on canvas.
