About this artwork
Pol No. 9, from the Swimming Pool series.
Large oil painting, canvas on sturdy stretcher frame
Canvas "Coala"
Inspired by a young woman underwater, I was fascinated by the sunlight reflecting off her body, creating a surreal, aesthetic effect. I combined these forms with an idealized human figure and vibrant swimwear colors to create a harmonious, striking image.
I choose photorealism to capture the fleeting beauty of the moment, but photography… is often not enough to express my artistic vision.
Using oil or acrylic on canvas allows me to blend colors, add texture, and deepen the surreal and aesthetic qualities. This helps me interpret the scene and elevate it into a timeless, emotional work of art.

« The act of painting allows me to intensify the uniqueness of the moments I previously captured with the camera, and to adapt it according to my own ideal. »
Jean-Pierre Kunkel is a German artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally at art fairs. His photorealistic compositions are based on his own photographs, which he composes digitally then renders onto canvas with oils. Through this process, Kunkel optimizes reality, playing with the intensities of color, light reflections, and surface structures. In addition, he also paints abstract, surrealist, and pop art-inspired pieces. The diverse artist creates using acrylics, oils, and collage on canvas.
