About this artwork
Jeff's method is to respond to the materials so BENNY is a collaboration between himself and these car parts. Benny started with constructing the eyes/nose combination. BENNY began to influence what was added, how it was shaped and what colours were needed--if any. BENNY started with shovel and torque converter parts. Gas tanks and transmission filter covers were added later. Layers of paint were built up on the hair and lower face and then sanded…

Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
