About this artwork
The central piece in CARNIVAL is the interior panel from a car door. These panels are stamped and punched in non-symmetrical shapes which the artist responded to. In this case, the panel is the middle layer and other than being cut out from the larger door panel, has not been altered. The artist used colours to highlight the various topographies within the panel. The top layer consists of both manual and automatic transmission parts assembled in…
an airy panel. The bottom layer simply provides a solid colour for the other layers to interact with.

« I strive for the directness of children with the sensibilities of an adult. I want as little separation as possible between myself and the creative process. »
Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
