About this artwork
From recycled auto parts comes a metal portrait of the world's obsession. Colourful, and urban, this mask, though political, is playful. DETROIT DEMON started with the woven metal shroud around an exhaust pipe which when freed from the pipe is able to be easily manipulate into, say, a horn. The artist embodied the rest of the demon with gas tank and transmission parts . The variegated paint colours on tis wall sculpture were dictated by the character…
of this demon.

« I strive for the directness of children with the sensibilities of an adult. I want as little separation as possible between myself and the creative process. »
Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
