About this artwork
This metal mask is a portrait of a mythical urban queen in white and rust. Employing the quality of mas-produced parts, I started with the symmetrical halves of the face which were then fit into a clutch housing. The "crown" is made from parts deeply hidden within the clutch assembly.
EMPRESS is a metal wall sculpture made from recycled car parts.

« I strive for the directness of children with the sensibilities of an adult. I want as little separation as possible between myself and the creative process. »
Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
