About this artwork
HAPPY BACTERIA ,as with almost all the artist's work, is a response to the materials --car parts Exploring oval shapes in separator plates from automatic transmissions and concurrently exploring welding clutch springs together led to shapes and complexities that reminded the artist of bacteria. IHe created 3 layers, a background of tire tread patterns(on plywood), a middle layer of clutch and seat springs and the top shell layer ,with oval pill…
shaped cut -outs, of separator plates . These bacteria needed bright colours and the surface shapes needed enhancing with dots.

Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
