About this artwork
This rust patined metal portrait is a modern urban interpretation of a classical Greek mask. I started with an eyes/nose combination made from a torque converter and part of a shovel. At that stage, the expression of the mask began to emerge. That partial face accepted or rejected the options I offered it; the severe lines of an oil pan worked well. After much cutting and shaping the final face emerged. LAUGHING MANN is a theatrical metal wall sculpture…
made from recycled auto parts.

« I strive for the directness of children with the sensibilities of an adult. I want as little separation as possible between myself and the creative process. »
Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
