About this artwork
LEONARDO started with an eyes/nose combination from a torque converter and an exhaust pipe. Two identical heat shields were cut and welded to give the cheek/jaw combination. The artist tried several options to finish the structure of the mask (the response method often takes time to find the right fit) finally setting on the fin structure within a torque convertor. Normally, the artist doesn’t use a piece—especially circular ones—in their entirety,…
but in this case the complete piece worked will though it required extensive shaping to fit the rest of the face. Layers of paint were added to the lower face and sanded through to give the variegated look.

Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
