About this artwork
The recycled car part mask, OGROST, is made from gas tanks, heat shields and torque converter parts. As with all his masks, the artist use the response method which means he has no idea what the mask will be when he starts. In this case the artist combined the eyes to manipulated heat shield parts and the rest became clear as he worked on it. The finish is sanded layers of paint. Eventually this mask seemed like a character out of the movie, Spirited…

Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
