About this artwork
Unearthed from the artist's driveway, this old culvert created a perfect surface to work with. The artist cut the culvert in half longitudinally and then into sections. Through response, the artist was certain that the assembly of the sections should be slightly curved. He chose aluminum car parts from his collection (and also some parts from chainsaws and lawnmower carburetors ). The aluminum was left raw to be in contrast to the rusted background.…
The artist's response was to embed the upper layer into the topography of the culvert sections.

Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
