About this artwork
SOLSTICE began with the toothiness of a disassembled manual clutch housing. A dissected and reassembled shovel helped to translate the clutch housing into a jaw. The cut, heated and bent "hair" links the mask to a more primitive and rustic time The Pumpkinesque look of this mask links it to the deeper earth and celestial cycles in which we, rather unconsciously, live.

« I strive for the directness of children with the sensibilities of an adult. I want as little separation as possible between myself and the creative process. »
Jeff Mann is an award-winning sculptor based in Canada whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in the United States. He describes his intuitive based artistic process as eschewing narrative or representation and being environmentally based. Unlike abstract or intuitive art, Mann's work often centers around the car and computers, which he believes define our culture. His diverse compositions are created using a variety of materials which include steel and aluminum.
