About this artwork
After a recent trip to Amsterdam, I was struck by the light and brilliant colors in the darks in much of the Baroque works. Where did that light and those colors come from? I knew I wanted a darker backdrop to begin this body of work. After the backdrops were stained and restrained to the point I would consider them like a palimpsest, there was plenty of room for new mark making. By sewing canvases together the "Prayers for Rain" series gave a sense…
of landscape to the work and continued my interest in surface tension and juxtaposition.

Schneider, uses a variety of mediums like oil paint, acrylic washes, and screen print inks. He introduces a "backdrop" and considers his start to a painting much like a live theatre performance. His art imparts a sense of discovery and depth, mirroring his belief in uncovering the hidden systems beneath images. The viewer is consistently asked to unravel and experience the unfolding narratives in his robust and dynamic pieces. Music, poetry, and photography have always been starting points for his work. These serve as reference points that provide a mixture of visual cues to understand the rhythm, gesture, and depth within the work. Schneider believe's painting is the perfect way to critique work you already admire, because you can take the most interesting elements in that work and then push your work as the new way forward; to make it become the next important step. For him, it's the tradition in art and in creative thought.
