About this artwork
A frenzied flock of diving gannet birds searches the chilly Atlantic waters for schools of fleeing mackerel in this vibrant underwater spectacle depicted in engraved and heat tinted metal wall art.
Jeff has tried to capture the frenzy of activity you would see if you were underwater watching these magnificent birds as they hunt together for their dinner.
Jeff makes these engraved and heat tinted metal wall art pieces using decorative techniques… he's been developing for the last 30 years or so. After enlarging the drawing onto plasma cut 14 gauge steel, he engraves it into the metal using a pneumatic engraver and grinding burrs.
He then uses a variety of abrasives to grind the surface of the wall panel to create grinding patterns and textures, suggest the forms and movement, and the overall feeling he wants to capture. The result is akin to a metal art painting.
Edition of 7, each is an original in its own right and can be commissioned in a size to best fit your space

Jeffrey Dean is an award-winning American sculptor whose works are deeply rooted in nature.
