About this artwork
This painting is about pressure - the kind you don’t see but you feel. I know it well: that constant push from the outside, and the quiet weight from within. "Under Pressure -A1" grew from my "The Hydrants" project, inspired by a simple fire hydrant - a quiet symbol of contained force, of emotions waiting to burst.
I worked with a palette knife, building raw layers of red, clashing with strokes of blue and green. Red carries the heat and tension… of daily life; blue and green breathe moments of hope and relief. The surface cracked and blended into something real, imperfect, but true - just like us.
This piece doesn’t explain. It invites you to feel. To see your own story in its layers.
For anyone who’s ever felt the weight of holding it all together.
This piece belongs with someone who understands the beauty in breaking open.

Jennifer Vahlbruch is a self-taught contemporary painter and photographer whose multidisciplinary background merges intuitive creativity with conceptual depth. Emigrating from Germany to the United States transformed her perspective, inspiring her to uncover the beauty in overlooked details, weathered surfaces, and even the “imperfect.” Her abstract paintings, created with bold, experimental techniques and often using palette knives and unconventional tools, build rich layers of texture, color, and movement that allow organic forms to emerge.
