About this artwork
This is a piece I began in 2018 but which I had to put away because I just couldn't get it right. Then earlier this month I pulled it from the rack and finished it! Work goes like that sometimes, occasionally paintings work out really smoothly and quickly and other times it's a more troubled and laboured, either always surprises me, 'It Always Was' was the latter!
This painting has always been about the permanence of some things and the fleetingness… of others and how both states have grace and are beautiful.

« I try to capture those little moments of perfection. That sudden intuitive perception or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something ungraspable. »
Jenny Fox is an artist based in Ireland whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally and in the United States. She is fascinated by compositions and the movement of the eye around the picture plane using minimal or reductive mark-making. Through her works, Fox endeavors to recreate the memories of moments when "everything feels right", focusing on feelings rather than the event itself. She creates with oils and mixed media on canvas.
