About this artwork
I created Ice Cathedral during a period of profound personal transformation. This piece emerged not from planning but from surrender - layer by layer, the painting found its own logic, its own stillness, its own light.
The white and blue field represents the vast interior silence that exists beneath the noise of daily life. The silver inclusions - built up in raised sculptural relief - are not decorative. They are the moments where something crystalline… and permanent breaks through the surface. Like ice formations in a cathedral of light, they hold both fragility and permanence simultaneously.
I work in acrylic mixed media, building surfaces to a depth of 2 to 3 centimetres through successive layers of moulding paste, metallic pigment and gestural paint. The result is a painting that changes as you move around it - the silver catches light differently at every angle, the blue deepens or lifts depending on the time of day.
