About this artwork
While the male totem exemplifies nourishment through its slaughter or sacrifice, a cow symbolizes birth and motherhood. Her symbolism, with nods to picasso, assists us in understanding and embracing fertility and the relationships necessary for it.

« An artist’s journey is typically not an easy one. Creating is where I focus my energy and express my emotion. Expressing emotion in 'normal' ways does not always work for me. »
Jess Black is an emerging painter from the United States whose abstract works have been exhibited nationally. Black developed a talent for art as a kid and was commissioned as early as the age of 14 to do large scale mural work in multiple US cities. After abandoning a strict religious upbringing, Black moved to New York and eventually Los Angeles to pursue art full time. Black's work has been featured in publications such as Juxtapoz Magazine, Paper Magazine, Avenue Insider, and Art World News. In 2015, Black was named the Official Artist of the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.
