About this artwork
In the confusion of an era in which uncertainty seems to be the only constant, we are all searching for ways to make sense of the world around us. From weather disasters, social upheaval, and political strife to the catastrophic Covid-19 global pandemic—each of us has been profoundly touched by the turmoil of 2020. We are still in the midst of crisis, and everything seems upside down.
I have found comfort in my painting studio during this difficult… time, and my work has become documentation of the heartbreak, hope, and solitude of this era. The changes around us feel tectonic; as if the very foundations of what we knew and understood have been shaken. My work deals directly with these foundations as I experience and process them—democracy, collective action, racial justice, health care, crisis management, immigration, and social distancing.
This work was created on raw canvas and some of the natural texture was left uncovered intentionally.

Jessica Eichman is a prizewinning American artist who has exhibited her work in Nashville. The overarching theme in her work is about letting go - of expectations, rules, desires, control and fear. Seeking to achieve a balance of intention and chance, she works with the painting rather than directing it, arriving at an intentional point of visual chaos.
