« The idea of nothingness being everything, of finding by not searching, has increasingly influenced my artistic practice in recent years. »
Jodd von Schaffstein, is a German painter specializing in abstract art. After working as a poster and cinema advertising painter between 1959 and 1963, Schaffstein studied painting and fine art at the Werkkunstschule in Dortmund from 1970 to 1972. His current works are raw imaginary worlds, often created from natural materials such as ash, stone dust, shellac, graphite, coal or pigment dust, which he extracts from pulverized limestone and sandstone brought back from his frequent trips to Mallorca, the South of France and Italy. His work has been described as Transformelle Painting, by the art historian Velario Deho, Bologna, 1996.
