About this artwork
This sculpture evokes the grace and fluidity of feline movement. A black cat that playfully chases his tail Mysterious, continuous, dark yet innocent. As in much of my work, it also contrasts the impermanence of the black-oxidized metal with the permanence and continuity of gold.

Joel Douek is an experienced sculptor from the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Driven by curiosity and a desire to experiment, Douek creates abstract sculptures out of steel, copper, brass, and wood that explore beauty in natural processes of aging. He uses various techniques of oxidation and often layers his pieces with gold leaf, creating eye-catching textures.
