About this artwork
Created using steel plates and gold leaf, oxidized using various techniques to bring out the deep tones and natural patterns of rusted steel. This work is an exploration of impermanence and change (rusting) contrasted against the enduring permanence of gold.

Joel Douek is an experienced sculptor from the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Driven by curiosity and a desire to experiment, Douek creates abstract sculptures out of steel, copper, brass, and wood that explore beauty in natural processes of aging. He uses various techniques of oxidation and often layers his pieces with gold leaf, creating eye-catching textures.
