About this artwork
Pillars of reclaimed Walnut wood enclose three pieces of steel tube. The tube is overlaid with a gradient of 24, 18 and 12 carat Gold Leaf. The impermance of weather wood and rusted metal meets the permanence of gold. The two can co-exist, and their contrast bring each to life.

Joel Douek is an experienced sculptor from the United States whose work has been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Driven by curiosity and a desire to experiment, Douek creates abstract sculptures out of steel, copper, brass, and wood that explore beauty in natural processes of aging. He uses various techniques of oxidation and often layers his pieces with gold leaf, creating eye-catching textures.
