About this artwork
Scorched Earth is a bit of a story about a neglected painting. I really loved this painting after I finished it, but during an exhibition, while selecting it, I realized that the varnish I'd applied had caused cracking all over the canvas. So I put it aside before coming across it again a few months ago. The varnish was still there, the cracks too... but I thought it gave the work character, that this incident was ultimately a good thing. So I renamed…
