About this artwork
I was standing at the window of my study, looking up my long, wild garden to the hill beyond. There was a buzzard hovering at mid-height, balanced on the wind.
Then it plunged, fierce, magnificent.
I don't know what it caught - if anything - but I saw both the beauty and viciousness of life in that moment.
Then I made this. Homemade Oak Gall ink on recycled cotton-rag paper handmade in Southern India. Local ink on local paper - from different… sides of the globe.
I tried, in a single sequence of gestures, to imagine how it must be to plunge like a buzzard.
The piece is unframed, leaving you to decide how best to display the deckled edges of the beautiful paper.
