About this artwork
A small craft is dwarfed by the majesty of a luminous billowing cumulus cloud rising high into the classic blue sky.
This is the fourth in a series of Icarus paintings that explores our relationship to the world around us and how humanity, like Icarus, is flying too close to the sun with every year that passes.
I wanted to make a cloudscape that was luminous and showed the beauty and wonder of our world.
The cloud, strong-looking, is immense… and imposing, and yet it too will eventually disappear. But for the moment, it glows brightly in the firmament, watching the plane disappear into the blue.

« Wandering through the landscape we're touched by its mood and light, we live in it, and it lives in us. This magical union is where my paintings are born. »
John O'Grady is an experienced artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in England and Ireland. Through his works, he explores our changing relationship with the natural world and how we have become disconnected from the land. O'Grady's striking pieces convey a magical and spiritual dimension in his landscapes. He favors a bold color palette via acrylics, oils, and spray paint on canvas.
