The painting prompts reflection on that unpredictable moment in the creative act when the work ceases to be entirely under the artist's control. The mermaid symbolizes the imagination that erupts and transforms the painter's reality, while the figure's gesture conveys surprise, even a certain unease, at what she has created.
In this work, I wanted to capture the duality between reality and dream, between the tangible and the ethereal. The figure… of the artist, serious and profound, contrasts with the mermaid, a symbol of mystery and fantasy. The open sea in the background suggests the depth of the artist's inner world, from which the images emerge and ultimately take shape on the canvas.
Thus, the work speaks of that magical—and sometimes unsettling—moment in which painting ceases to be merely a technique and becomes something alive, capable of escaping from the hands of its creator.
This emotionally charged piece will vibrate with energy in any space, inviting reflection and inspiration.
